Ghosts and Mansions, "The VICTORIAN" in Gardner has a CHAMPION (Gardner, MA)

TIME IS SHORT IN GARDNER, MASSACHUSETTS

OakView Preservation Incorporated, (OVPI), a 501(c)(3) public charity organized in July 2007 for historic preservation and fostering art and cultural events is hurriedly trying to raise $200,000 in loans, seed money, grants or donations in order to acquire, preserve and share the SK Pierce Mansion in Gardner also known as “The Victorian” which was the subject of the Sci-Fi Channel show “Ghost Hunters” and the BBC show “Dead Famous”. The mansion was a stopping place for New York elite as they traveled to New Hampshire and Vermont in the Gilded Age. The home hosted the likes of President Calvin Coolidge and P.T. Barnum.

OVPI is making a push to acquire the SK Pierce Mansion located at 4 West Broadway in Gardner, MA. The home is on the market and needs acquired by a preservation group to prevent declination of the home and to uplift the community and prevent declination of the area. Sylvester K. Pierce was the founder of the SK Pierce & Son Chair Company and benefactor of the town of Gardner, Massachusetts also known as “Chair City.” OVPI is defining the project as:

Acquire the home.

Accomplish modest renovation and then open the house as a museum with collected displays, and as an Art and Culture Center.

OVPI will work to strengthen artists and culture as an organization that will enable the artists to express cultural values and perspectives more powerfully. OVPI will display art from local artists, Massachusetts and New England Artists and National Artists as well. One immediate program will be to foster historic preservation and involving local schools is to ask the schools grades 7 - 10 to draw their "favorite" historic building. Each class will have their art displayed at the SK Pierce Mansion for one month. This will also get parents involved as well as peers and friends.

The building is zoned commercial/residential. OVPI will use the historic building for fund raising events, and within 6 months, event use such as wedding and baby showers, meetings, etc all supporting the cause of historic preservation of the home and fostering arts and culture of the New England area.

OVPI is actively soliciting seed money, loan, grant or donation funds which will allow for the immediate acquisition of the home and opening within three months of the museum and Art Center. Fundraising efforts will start immediately after acquisition.

OVPI is asking for $200,000 from any local business, private individual, or any other group that may wish to provide the seed money, loan, grant or donation. OVPI is driven to preserve our heritage displayed in the building that has stood the test of time for over 133 years. OVPI wishes to share this fine building with EVERYONE, and to have an outlet for the expression of ideas through art and culture. “We hope this will enrich the community by broadening access and involvement of diverse audiences through art and culture” Brad McCracken, CEO and co-founder of OVPI says.

The Sk Pierce Mansion is in a location that may also qualify for CDBG programs after acquisition (Community Development Block Grants). “Any seed money, loan, grant or donation will immediately help curb blight and will foster development for businesses and the community-as-a-whole,” McCracken continues. “Our work will concentrate on strengthening organizations , networks and movements for the arts and culture in Gardner and surrounding areas and will promote peaceful and just communities. We will seek to build vibrant, prosperous, safe and inclusive programs that involve the community and whole region.”

Opening the SK Pierce Mansion for art and culture will allow OVPI to emphasize equitable collaboration among all sectors in the community.

“Time is short. We must save this icon of Gardner’s history and Massachusetts history,” McCracken says. “Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law since OVPI is a 501(c)(3) public charity. If you care to help, you will move us in this direction.” Donations can be made to OVPI, PO Box 187, Norwood, MA 02062, or by calling McCracken directly at 508-631-3953 or toll free 1-866-760-2286.

WORLD SUPER SCOREBALL SELECTS VIRGIN MOBILE AS SERVICE PROVIDER (Worcester)

LONDON, ENGLAND – The World Super Scoreball Federation announced the selection of Virgin Mobile as a preferred communication service provider according to commissioner Mark Wilmot of the World Super Scoreball Federation located in Massachusetts.

“Virgin Mobile’s brand name is well-respected, and well-liked by young people everywhere.” Commissioner Wilmot explained the view that Virgin Mobile’s corporate philosophy is consistent with that of World Super Scoreball. “They foster pride and vision in a wide range of sponsorships, including sports, music, and motor racing. They also incorporate values associated with fun and new challenges while giving new starters a chance. That philosophy aligns perfectly with our vision because super scoreball is all about fun, fitness, the evolution of sports, and giving more children a chance to play sports.”

Virgin Mobile, created by Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group during 1999, established itself as the world's first virtual mobile network, emerging from the United Kingdom during the very beginning of the cell phone age. The company operates through partnerships with existing phone giants, providing a widely-recognized youth brand to customers around the world. The mobile communications provider is currently operating in the United Kingdom, India, Australia, Canada, South Africa, the United States, and France, all countries where the
World Super Scoreball Federation plans to introduce its sport to more countries in coming years. The World Super Scoreball Federation was created just five years ago as the governing organization for a sport which is viewed as a highly desirable hybrid game combining the excitement of tug of war with elements of basketball and soccer. I don’t usually review scary movies. So you will need to use your own judgment when it comes to this film.

However, I have to ask the question: Is there any good that can come of someone knocking on your door with there face covered?

If someone knocks on your door and they have on a mask, balaclava (ski mask), or (worst of all) a potato sack with wholes in it, DO NOT open the door. There are no questions you need to ask this person. Turn out the lights, arm yourself, and dial 911!

Worcester Business To Host Super Scoreball Youth Fitness Day (Worcester)

WORCESTER, MA -- A Worcester auto body and motorcycle repair business announced plans to sponsor a customer appreciation day and youth fitness event during Labor Day weekend. In addition to refreshments, the afternoon event will feature the new world sport called super scoreball as well as presentations on fitness and physical fitness testing. Justin Forkuo, owner of 290 Customs and Motorcycle Shop located at 35 Lagrange Street, Worcester believes the late summer event is the best way to thank customers while at the same time providing a worthwhile event for families in the area.

"We want to thank our customers, past and present, so we plan on hosting a special event at one of the city's parks. Besides showing appreciation for our customers, we plan to provide the city's youth with a special opportunity to have fun while getting exercise playing a sport created right here in Massachusetts. We want the kids to come out and have fun. They can learn more about health and fitness during this free event."

While not certain on the event's location, Forkuo believes the celebration will take place Saturday, August 30th at East Park on Shrewsbury Street.
"We are talking with city officials, plus we locked-on a committment from the World Super Scoreball Federation. They will set-up scoreball field units for the afternoon, and the sport's commissioner agreed to provide actual presentations and handouts on fitness to everyone who attends. This is an awesome way to thank customers while emphasising fitness and health."
