PROS: This gem of an automatic vintage 1970 Opel GT, in iconic orange, is in excellent condition for a 55 year old vehicle. Built by GM in Germany from 1968 to 1973, the uni-body frame is solid steel construction as is the entire exterior body--the only fiberglass on it is an aftermarket rear spoiler installed by the restorer. GM marketed it in the US as the "Baby Corvette." Restored in Nevada, there is virtually no rust visible. The 1.9 litter engine has a new Weber carburetor, new spark plugs, new hoses, wires and belts, new electric fuel pump and lines, and an electronic ignition. A spare electronic ignition comes with the car. The restored engine mileage is 2,800 miles. The mileage since 1970 is 75,400. The gas tank was steamed and cleaned, and new exterior paint in iconic orange was completed in 2015. Power steering and power brakes were installed in 2021. A new horn was installed in 2024 with a black button mounted on the steering column. The car was fitted with 4 brand new 15" tires in 2024. A spare and jack are located in the rear of the interior. The black vinyl interior is virtually spotless with bucket seats and waist seat belts only--no shoulder straps. Front and rear stereo speakers were also installed. There are no cracks on the upholstery or dash and a new headliner was installed. All classic gauges work great, and the unique, manual, flip headlights also works great. The wiper blades are new and the wipers work great. The blower works great as well--air vents work well on both sides, along with the windshield defogger vent. This classic has been stored indoors during the winter on a battery tender and a stablizer liquid has always been added to the fuel tank during storage each year. A new battery was installed in 2023. This GT has not been exposed to the winter elements. It has been driven in spring and summer on weekends, mostly to car shows. It has not been a daily drive. The engine was tuned in the summer of 2024. This GT comes with a new, in the box, radio that would need to be installed, a new, in the box, backup camera and monitor to be installed as well, a variety of new and used parts, an owner's manual, a service manual, an original Opel GT duffle bag, and a variety of historical and other information about Opel GTs.
CONS: The heater and radio do not work, the hood release pull is tricky, and there are two small engine fluid drips on the ground, now and then. The drips were checked out by a certified mechanic, who stated there is nothing to worry about and added that even new cars drip. The owner was informed of all of these "things" before making his puchase.
