A lot came up for me this spring. I am behind and one person is no longer sufficient to the needs of my homestead under the circumstances…. So am looking for help. I am buried. Usually things are fine but a lot of unexpected stuff came up this year. So I am looking for an assistant. Through the summer maybe through the fall and perhaps again in future years as needed. Looking for 4 to 12 hours during the week. I don’t need weekends.
The job includes garden work, occasional goat cleaning out, some goat milking if you don’t know how I will teach you. My hope is to get outside to work with you as much as possible. You may find yourself on puppy duty he is teething and has tons of energy. You may wind up on kitchen duty, helping with sour dough baking, canning, fiber crafts, self care product making, household cleansers making, and much more. You may be asked to collect the rent from the chickens.
This is or usually is a fairly self sufficient homestead small farm. We do it for ourselves. We are not a market farm. For any wondering I don’t offer raw milk that is a con job. It allows farmers to do less work invest less time and make more money off a fad. The health benefits do not outweigh the risks. We produce only for ourselves. We rarely hire. Tough year though no choice. The people who spend time here tend to become part of the family. Because we are a small family homestead.
What makes this job great, you build a relationship with nice people that treat you like family, you learn a lot of skills that can be useful if you ever want to live this way yourself, save some money by trading one kind of problems for another. Time outside in a green place, time spent caring for living things. The occasional extra produce, I am an herbal apothecary by training. So you may learn about how to use some plants for health and wellness, because it is just part of day to day life here.
Hoping to find someone who is fun to work with, someone who can deal with a woman in authority, someone able bodied and capable or who learns fast. Must have no animal allergies. Must be comfortable getting dirty and doing hard work. Must have no history of animal cruelty. We treasure our friends in the barn yard and dog also. Looking for someone who can make themselves useful and helpful. If you can drive even better. Am happy to offer an extra $20 or $40 a week for gas in addition to pay. To help you get out here and home and to run farm errands as needed.
