Here is a fully restored (by the seller) Truetone Model D699, sold by Western Automotive Stores during the 1938 model year. All electrolytic and paper & wax capacitors have been replaced with far more dependable modern equivalents. Nearly all of the original dog bone resistors had fallen out of tolerance and were also replaced. The output transformer was replaced with a new Hammond equivalent because one of the push-pull windings was open.
All tubes test good. Nearly all are the original Ken-Rad's and are the correct style specified for each one (G vs. GT vs. metal).
The cabinet was restored with the original black and brown enamel trim, a neutral stain, and multiple coats of lacquer. The brass dial bezel now looks brand new. The original tuning eye tube was replaced with something you can see under most lighting conditions.
This radio has great audio with crisp highs and powerful lows - one of the best for consoles I've restored. As long as there is not a powerful AM transmitter nearby, reception is also good on all bands. It covers all frequencies from 530 kHz to 18.1 MHz - all of AM and most shortwave. There is a slight hum that can be heard when the volume is turned down. Repair literature is included in an envelope.
The dimensions of the radio are 40 inches high by 23.25 inches wide by 13.5 inches deep.
