I play upon a highly evolved washtub-like bass that uses a 22-inch bass drum, instead of a metal washtub, and a Celtic harp string etc. Its belly tone and intuitive accuracy are spellbinding! (It's the Cadillac version of the gut-bucket bass.) I'm 75 with lots of blues yet to express. My bass is highly responsive and can catch almost any musical fastball you can throw at it, such as chord, key, and tempo changes, or stops and starts. It is at home in most any old-time blues as heard in recordings before the invention of the electric bass. Having only one string forces me to keep my bass lines simple. (Also, having a kick-drum-mic inside, it can rattle windows in most juke-joints!) I love old blues and that big, fat dog-house-sounding upright bass tone! I live in North Central Massachusetts, and I don't mind traveling.
