My name is Tom. I'm a professional musician, puppeteer, and school assembly presenter with more than 35 years of experience performing in schools and libraries throughout New England. I run my own business and spend much of the school year traveling to performances during the day and returning home in the evenings.
I'm quiet, responsible, financially conscientious, and easy to live with. I live a low-key lifestyle, don't smoke, don't drink, and don't host parties. Most of my free time is spent working on creative projects, hiking, reading, making music, or visiting my partner in Maine.
Because of my work and relationship, I'm often away performing, traveling, or visiting my partner, so I spend a fair amount of time out of the house. When I am home, I work on my business from home. This includes office work, writing, recording, and occasionally making music during reasonable daytime hours. I'm always mindful of neighbors and shared living spaces and make a point of keeping noise levels respectful. My partner lives in Maine and may occasionally visit for a weekend, about once a month or so.
What I'm Looking For
I'm looking for a comfortable, peaceful place to call home beginning in August or September 2026.
After exploring a number of possibilities, I've realized my ideal situation would be sharing a furnished home with one compatible housemate (or perhaps a couple), or renting a furnished in-law apartment or similar private space. I have bedroom and office furniture of my own, but I like the idea of sharing a comfortably furnished home rather than starting from scratch furnishing an apartment.
Some things that are important to me:
• A quiet, respectful household
• One compatible housemate (or a couple) rather than a larger group household
• Housemates who generally work outside the home during the day, or a home with enough privacy and separation that we can comfortably pursue our own work and interests. I occasionally create music from home, so compatibility around schedules and shared space is important.
• Open communication and mutual respect
• Off-street parking
• Some storage space (a portion of a basement, garage, or similar area) for a few boxes and seasonal items would be greatly appreciated.
• I don't have any pets. I'm happy to share a home with a well-behaved, low-maintenance dog or cat.
• A long-term rental of at least one year
I'm making this move to be closer to my partner while maintaining access to the areas where I perform and work.
My ideal location is in the southern Worcester area or nearby communities such as Auburn, Millbury, Sutton, Grafton, Oxford, and surrounding towns. I'm open to other locations in Central Massachusetts for the right situation, but I'm generally hoping to stay within about an hour of Hartford, Connecticut, and within about 2.5 hours of Auburn, Maine, where my partner lives.
More than anything, I'm looking for a place that feels like home. I value kindness, open communication, mutual respect, and a household where people enjoy living together while still respecting each other's privacy and independence. I appreciate creativity, good conversation, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, and I'd love to find a living situation where everyone feels comfortable, supported, and glad to come home.
