The mason jars belonged to my wife's Armenian grandmother.
Attached is a photo of grandmother with her parents and brother taken in about 1913, just before WWI started.
Once Turkey joined the war, they suspected the christian population of anti government sentiment. (it was partly true)
The parents were hung because they were school teachers.
The brother and sister were forced with hundreds of others on a march of more than 100 miles thru the Syrian desert, brother died from the heat.
She was the only survivor in this family, grandmother was helped by Armenian groups and made it to Worcester, where she had 4 kids.
